Call for Symposia

Deadline for proposals: February 29th 2024

The World Ecoacoustics Congress (WEC) serves as a global platform for researchers, scientists, technicians, engineers and practitioners to discuss and advance the field of ecoacoustics. For this purpose, a pivotal activity of our scientific program will be the Symposia: expert-led sessions aimed to address a specific topic in depth, which will be open to all WEC attendees.

Call for Symposia is now open!

We are excited to announce that the call for Symposia is now open and invite you to submit your proposal for this upcoming event, scheduled for 8th-12th July 2024, in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain.

Symposia details

Symposium will be composed of a series of related talks followed by a general discussion. Each talk within a Symposium will be 12 minutes long (plus 3 minutes of questions). The Symposium chair can allocate a time slot of 15 minutes or 30 minutes to the discussion at the end of the session.

The Symposium length will range from 60 minutes to 135 minutes, according to the proposed number of speakers (up to seven) and the time allocated to the discussion. Four options will be available:

  • 60 minutes (2-3 speakers)
  • 75 minutes (3-4 speakers)
  • 90 minutes (4-5 speakers)
  • 135 minutes (5-7 speakers)

Each Symposium will be coordinated by one symposium chairperson who will be in charge of building and submitting the proposal, communicating with speakers and acting as moderator of the Symposium during the introduction, talks, questions and general discussion. The chairperson can also be responsible for giving one of the talks of the Symposium. Proposals with up to two chairpersons are allowed.

Proposals should meet the scope of the WEC as set out by our website and the website of the International Society of Ecoacoustics (please read the  Welcome message of the 5th World Ecoacoustics Congress for more details). We invite proposals on a variety of topics related to ecoacoustics, including but not limited to those listed in the Preliminary program.
